Many prospective economics PhD applicants have different levels of access to guidance during the application process. The Mentoring Program connects applicants with current PhD candidates at Berkeley, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford or Yale, who can offer:
Advice on graduate school and fellowship applications, including questions about the process and feedback on materials
Insights into economics research, day-to-day life as a PhD student and potential career paths, for those still weighing whether a PhD is the right choice
We especially welcome students who may have limited access to established networks or resources. Participants can be undergraduates, recent graduates or career-changers curious about the academic economics experience.
Applications for the program are now open. Mentorship will begin over the summer and may continue to the end of the year. Mentees who prefer to meet for a single “coffee chat” may indicate their preference on the form. We will do our best to match all interested applicants with a mentor; however, demand may exceed the availability of mentors.
Please note that this is a volunteer-based, student-run program. This program is not considered part of the admissions process for any Economics PhD Program, nor will any student's participation in the Program be considered by the Graduate Admissions Committee at any school.
